Suicide is defined as death by an act of self-infliction as an effort to end one’s life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2013), suicide was the tenth leading cause of death for all ages among Americans in 2013. It is the second leading cause of death among fifteen to twenty-nine year olds globally stated by World Health Organization (2015). Suicide being ranked that high on the lists of causes for deaths is astonishing because each of those deaths was preventable. Having awareness, knowledge, and the resources about suicide and suicide prevention must be utilized to provoke social change in individuals, families, and communities. The purpose of this teaching plan is to teach about suicide and suicide preventive strategies to adolescences ages twelve to nineteen years, using the humanistic learning theory and health promotion model, to a group in the identity versus role confusion psychosocial development stage and formal operational stage of c ognitive development. Population Identified Adolescent suicide is an increasing mental health concern. Adolescents are considered a high-risk group in view of the fact that suicide is the third leading cause of death among the ages ten to fourteen and the second leading cause of death among ages fifteen to thirty-five (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).
